Connecting With Other Carers

Life as a carer is better done together than alone.

There’s a community of carers in your local area that you can connect with.

Two middle-aged men, one Caucasian and the other Asian both greet each other with smiles and a hug with a pat on the back.

Peer Support Groups

Peer Support Groups for carers can help give you the opportunity to talk to other carers over shared experiences in a warm and friendly environment. We can help connect you with Peer Support Groups in your local area, and there may be groups that are specific to your caring situation.

Events & Workshops

There is a wide range of events and workshops that are held by Alfred Health Carer Services and other organisations every year that are specifically for carers, young carers, and occasionally also for the person you care for. Most of these events are free or only have a small cost.

Our Facebook Community Page

We’ve created a private moderated community group for unpaid carers where relevant news, information, upcoming events and more will be shared. You can also ask carer-related questions in the group, and other carers may comment and contribute to your post.

You must be over 18 years old to join our group.

  • What carers have said about peer support groups...

“I hope these meetings continue. I really have been encouraged and [it has] boosted my days as a carer knowing I’m not the only one in difficult circumstances. I enjoyed the support, help and advice and encouragement from everyone.”

    ———

“l just want to say l had the best day last Wed on the tree tour and catching up with a friend and made new ones - the whole day l felt included.”

  • What carers have said about our getaways...

“Many of the mums found lockdown especially hard as it really added an extra burden to our caring roles. We have all been tired and tearful and experienced many different emotions during this period. Not least guilt at finding it hard to cope with our beautiful children. We all want the best for them and I don’t think any of us felt at our best in lockdown.

We had the most wonderful weekend together sharing stories about the kids, laughing at ourselves, and supporting each other to enable us to carry on doing what we love which is watching our children grow into unique individuals.

The services you provided us gave us all time to enjoy each other’s company, chat, listen but also more importantly to relax.

Thank you all so very much for helping us. We are all very grateful for your service.”
