Our Services - Residential Respite Care
Providing carers with access to flexible Residential Respite Care for older people.

What is Residential Respite Care?

Residential respite provides short breaks for carers and the people they care for. Anyone who is a carer can ask for respite. Respite helps carers to find a balance between caring for others and caring for themselves.

Residential respite allows the person you care for to have a temporary stay in an aged care home where they will be looked after by experienced staff. The person being cared for is entitled to a total of 63 days residential respite per financial year in Commonwealth funded aged care homes.

The cost of residential respite is based on 85% of the aged pension. In order to access this type of residential care, the person needs to have a current Aged Care Assessment.

Benefits of Respite

For the carer:
  • Allows time for rest and relaxation.

  • Time out to have a holiday or visit family and friends.

  • Helps to restore your physical health and well being.

  • Provides the opportunity to 'try out' residential care before making long term decisions.

  • Promotes independence.

  • Provides an opportunity to have contact with others in different surroundings.
