Our Services - Service System Development

What is Service Development?

Service Development is about working in collaboration with service providers to get the best possible support for carers.

Service Development workers recognise and understand the important role carers and parent carers have in the community.

In the Southern Metropolitan region service development is provided through the collaboration of several programs of Southern Health, Peninsula Health and Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre Southern Region and Alfred Health.

We work with other service providers, carers, parent carers, advocacy groups and funding bodies to improve, develop, and expand existing and new services to meet the diverse range of carer need in the community. We also facilitate access by carers or parent carers to information, support and assistance.

We achieve this by:
  • Identifying service gaps and developing strategies to address unmet needs

  • Supporting generalist and program specific services such as Disability or Mental Health in the development of programs sensitive to the needs of carers and parent carers

  • Organising displays, expos, forums, community talks and presentations to carers, parent carers and services regarding respite and other supports

  • Supporting existing carer or parent carer groups with information, resources and education

  • Supporting the development of carer or parent carer groups

  • Facilitating networks between carers, parent carers and service providers on specific issues

These programs are funded by:
  • Home & Community Care (HACC)

  • Department of Human Services - Victorian Support for Carers, and Mental Health Branch

  • Commonwealth Departments of Family & Community Services, and Health and Aged Care.

Please speak with us about your ideas and service development needs. There may be a fee associated with the provision of staff training.
