Six years ago my husband fell ill - I also noticed some changes in his memory. For several years I cared for him and sometimes things would become very difficult. I was so busy I neglected myself.
One day I found a brochure at my doctor's surgery about the Carer Support Worker Program.
I rang the 1800 052 222 number and received really helpful support. The Carer Support Worker visited me at home and I could talk about the issues that I found so difficult to deal with. I was able to arrange assistance with my husband's care as well. Now when I require an occasional break I can always ring and get some in home respite and the support I need.
