For family & friend carers 2012 - Aged and Dementia

Education and training  is a valuable, and in some ways, crucial aspect of supporting carers.   We offer information sessions and courses relevant to new carers and for those who have been caring for a while.  We strive to make sessions welcoming, informative and supportive. For carers living in the southern region of Melbourne, we aim to be your best possible resource to access the support you need to enhance your caring capability. Facilitators are qualified professionals with extensive knowledge and experience in working with individuals, families and in larger groups.

February 24 & March 2 & 9
Do you care for someone with dementia?  We encourage you to commit three half-days to gaining strategies, tips and advice - along with others in similar situations.  You will gain valuable information to assist with your caring role.  This workshop will be held at Caulfield Hospital and facilitated by Alzheimer's Australia Vic.

February 28
Join us for a free workshop to be held at Caulfield Hospital which will help you understand how residential respite works.  Caring for someone often comes with numerous challenges and expectations, without the opportunity to take a break for yourself.  Regular breaks can assist you to unwind and to sustain a longer term caring role. 

February 29
Join a workshop in Dandenong providing information on the range of  'out of home respite opportunities' available in the community, including overnight and longer stays. Caring for someone often comes with numerous challenges and expectations, without the opportunity to take a break for yourself.  This free forum will show you ways to get regular breaks so you can unwind and sustain a longer term caring role.

March 9
Come and join us at Caulfield Hospital if you have recently placed someone you've cared for in a residential care facility.  The Sharing the Care Program aims to explore with carers the impact of placing someone in a care facility.  It will provide information and support for the next stage of the carer journey.

March 15
Do you have trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep or sleeping enough?  Sleep is essential for reviving your body and mind.  Join this workshop to be held in Mornington to learn some hints for better sleep and try some techniques to help you relax at night and deal with worry.  This workshop will provide an opportunity to meet people in like caring situations and will be facilitated by Carers Victoria.
