Carer Support - Young Carers provide support and assistance to young carers (under 25 years of age) who are the main provider of care and support for a relative or friend. The person they care for could be an older person, or someone living with a disability or mental illness.
These programs are available to young carers
- Who live in the Bayside, Cardinia, Casey, Frankston, Glen Eira, Greater Dandenong, Kingston, Mornington Peninsula, Port Phillip or Stonnington local government areas, and
- Who have been providing care that is likely to be ongoing for at least six months or more.
Carer Support - Young Carers
Carer Support Workers assist carers to find the balance between caring for others and caring for themselves. They can
- Meet young carers' short term requirements for support and assistance
- Provide carers with emotional support and help identify ways to improve their wellbeing
- Assist young carers to plan their short and long term care and support needs
- Explore ways young carers can get the most effective breaks and supports
- Connect young carers and the people they care for to appropriate local services, and
- Provide information about the range of aged, disability, mental health and community services available.
